They lack important parts.
The rumor mill on the intarwebs is grinding with the possibility that the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of Force Unleashed will NOT have online multiplayer. Why? Because the Wii, DS and PSP versions do.
Wait, what?
According to PSextreme Adam Khan of LucasArts had this to say:
To be specific, there's no multiplayer in the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, because there is on the Wii, PSP, and DS. As far as specific reasons are concerned, we don't really like to get into the reasons why we don't do things because I don't think there's really a satisfactory answer that people would really be happy with. So, there isn't multiplayer and that's kind of how it is...
So the two consoles that actually have robust online capabilities get no actual benefits for having that ability.
HOWEVER, upon reading further, it looks like the systems that are getting MP are getting a gimped “Duel Mode” which looks to be the equivalent of drunken midget clown fights. Essentially, the multiplayer is a direct connection to another player, so there would be no 4 way battles or any sort of decent match making capabilities.
What does this say about LucasArts?
People are getting angry over the possibility of not having a crappy version of multiplayer? I am more disappointed in that they didn’t even appear to ponder giving the XB360 and PS3 a good melee mode. Not taking advantage of the technology available to you is just poor decision making. It is not like Xbox live came out last Christmas, in the middle of the development cycle. Online play is a pretty well understood piece of gaming technology and it is quickly becoming a deal breaker when choosing games, especially when they are fairly expensive and the market is already carrying several top notch offerings.
Force Unleashed would have probably sold a lot more units than it will, quite simply for not unleashing all the fun it could have with a good multiplayercomponent.
This one goes on my grey market list, just for not having Multiplayer.
