PS3 Shipments Down, Microsoft Gets a Stiffy

God bless Ars Technica. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't get my daily dose of Vitamin LOL.

To sum up what's there, Sony has announced that due to unforeseen supply shortages, the European release of the Playstation 3 has been pushed back to March 2007. As noted by Ars, this means the only places getting "the launch" are North America and Japan, and apparently that's going to be even more anemic than expected.

According to that article I just linked you to, there's only going to be 400,000 machines available in the US, and 100,000 in Japan. They've also reduced their end-of-December target from 4 million to 2 million machines. Ken Kutaragi says they'll still be on target to hit 6 million by the end of March 2007, but hey...they'll still have RIDGE RACER!!

Meanwhile, the XBox 360 has a solid install base, and Dead Rising just sold over 500,000 copies. I'm sure the team over in Redmond is hissing with glee and walking around with six foot erections with cheeseburgers on the end of them over Sony's latest mishap.

The battle for the hearts and minds of gamers continues.
