Months of rumors came to a full head today as the announcement that EA purchased Mythic broke.
"Mythic has always been a leading independent developer in the online space," says Mark Jacobs, CEO and co-founder of Mythic Entertainment. "EA's commitment to the online market as well as its focus on creating games of unsurpassed quality, scope and scale gives us opportunities and resources we could only dream about in the past."
So committed to the online market that they've cancelled everything except UO, that is.
So your friend and mine Mark Jacobs will move from being President, CEO and Head Dude In Charge of Mythic to Vice President and General Manager of EA Mythic. The significant addition of "EA" before their name, aside from labelling them as a group I will no longer purchase from, raises questions of whether the UO and Sims Online teams will be moving up to Fairfax, because they will now be "a wholly-owned studio dedicated to developing Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games." At least the crew gets to stay in Virginia, because relocating in addition to being acquired by sweatshop-paying franchise killers would be an absolutely fatal blow.
Good luck, guys.
And we still love you, too, Sanya, even if you don't love us. *SMEWCH*
