That may have consequences beyond D&L. It will be the first released game using the licensed BigWorld server technology that has been pimped since 1999.
Remember? BigWorld: Citizen Zero was going to be a PC MMOG from Micro Forte. It never materialised, but they started a spin-off company to license
BigWorld technology. Stargate Worlds is their other western licensee.
Citizen Zero was re-announced as an Xbox game in 2002, then disappeared again. Then it was re-re-announced in 2004 as PC and Xbox, but still hasn't appeared despite website info updates.
Most bizarrely of all, an official
Citizen Zero forum community has been going since 1999, without ever getting a game. Ultimate fanbois? The
Micro Forte website is also entertaining:

Micro Forté have dedicated the last few years to focusing on building the BigWorld Technology platform for MMOG game development. Micro Forté have successfully completed this technology and spun it out as a separate middleware company named BigWorld Pty Ltd.
Not many game studios have done this sort of thing before, however, we felt that our unique focus and combined experiences would allow us to successfully develop this cutting edge technology, and in doing so, create a new group of people focused on an area we identified as needing attention - namely highly scalable and well integrated MMOG middleware.
i.e. they have released nothing for years, and all they have to show for it is Dark & Light's servers. And they're still claiming to have their own MMOGs in the works.
