Heh, check out that thread again. Three posts from IGE Gulpsalot and zero posts from Savant. Hmmm.

Didn't I say something about Gayindy probably being personal interest for the IGE directors in IRC last night? Some things are just obvious, I guess.

Right-click and Save As on this link to take your own copy of the DEN movie, in case IGE manages to get it removed from fuckedcompany someday.

Or left-click to watch it in glorious fullscreen :)

Found a classic from Allakhazam.

I can assure you that Allakhazam.com never has had and never will have any association with IGE. No amount of money will change that.

Yes. And ah, here we are:

[02:09] <Lum_> I'm just sort of wondering why IGE bought Gay Indy
[02:10] <Dawn_Falcon> personal interest to the directors?

Nope. It's true. If the source wishes me to identify them, or to identify themselves, that's up to them.

Proof? That's a hell of a thing to accuse someone of without providing any evidence.

I don't think Corp has ever pretended to play nice. Devs have this silly habit of liking our 'badass image' until we point the finger at THEM, whereupon honor is sullied and wah wah wah. If we level an accusation based on a source we trust enough to go to print with (and believe me, we hear a LOT of stuff we never publish), they can just simply deny it and tell us their side of things and we'll be happy to publish that too.

I am wholly shocked that Savant, who left Themis Group right around the time the latter was severing their one-night-stand relationship with IGE (a mistake for which they have long since paid their dues), might have been shilling for IGE all along.

The idea that this man had anything but the best intentions for his career, how he's perceived by his peers and the games and communities he touches, is complete anethema to me. And now I must finish my beer.

How long now until Blizzard work real-money item and gold economies into their game? Even if it's just on a few servers, as is the case with Everquest. It seems to be the way things are going, and the companies who actually make the games might be wondering why they're losing out on the money hats that it brings.

Anyway, aside from that... well, insert usual hell-in-a-handbasket comments here. I'd be a hell of a lot more outraged about this if it had happened a couple of years ago, but it seems completely inevitable these days.

Why not? The players don't see to mind. Some may squawk a bit on message boards, but I don't see people canceling their subs or anything.

Why not indeed. I think if it was an integral part of the game's pre-release hype then a lot of people would be put off, but as you say, the number of people who actually seem to cancel over these incidents is quite small.

Of course, it depends how it's implemented. If there is a selling economic for players, that could be awful: I know a few people who quit FF Online due to the non-stop farming of competitive spawns. If it's just allowing players to spend an extra hour at work to earn the money to buy their Sword of Fetapulting +3, as opposed to spending an extra hour or two camping the spawn or farming the gold for it, it just seems to me like it's cutting out the middleman.

Plus, of course, it causes IGE to lose money, so it's win-win for everyone with a spine.

I was at a conference for game attorneys in March and the chief corp. counsel for Blizzard was there. During the RMT panel, he basically spouted the Blizzard company line of, "We will never, ever allow RMT, and we will never, ever do it ourselves."

Does that mean they won't waffle? No. But certainly, they're trying to put up a united front right now. And really, it's not like they need the dough.

I'd love to see Blizzard and any other developer start RMT servers, or convert some existing servers into RMT servers. Of course, they'd need to allow transfers off of those servers for people who don't want to be involed. I'd love it if for no other reason than to deprive the IGE's of the world of the doss they earn by being leeches.

But IGE or any other organized sweatshop leech outfit? Fuck them, they don't deserve the money.
