I must warn you, I have no idea how to play the game and it may very well be quite unlike Lum depicted at Broken Toys
However, I do know how to register an account, download the client and create a character.

Step 1: Go to http://www.yogurting.jp/

Step 2: Once you're at the website, there are tabs going down the left side-red, orange, green, etc. We want to click on the red one. Three options appear! Click on the middle one, since we want to make an account. You'll see some Japanese text and a button with more Japanese text and the letters "ID". Clicky clicky!!
Image
You should have arrived at https://auth.gungho.jp/YGTrialCenter.aspx as a result.

Step 3: You'll want to look down until you see the little Yogurting sign with the ID button to the right of it, looking like Image
You should arrive at something looking like this: Image

Step 4: The top field is where you should put the email address with which you want to register. Confirm the address by making sure it's there again. The box below it that's checked is one of those offers for a "yogurting magazine" mail list thingy. It's probably safe to uncheck it. Below that is what I bet is the Terms of Service. At the bottom, click the button to the left. Now, go check your email.

Step 5: You'll have gotten one from <member_manage@gungho.jp>. Most of it is Japanese, save some links and especially this:
▼▲━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━▲▼
⇒ 本人確認の認証キー:{your code here-look for letters and numbers}
▲▼━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━▼▲
Scroll a little further and you'll see a link to https://auth.gungho.jp/yogurting/register/PreFinish.aspx, luckily named the same thing. Go there, enter the code you got from the email, and press the grey button on the bottom. This is how you'll get your account name and password. Write them down, because we can't paste them.

Step 6: Back to the Yogurting website. Press that red button again, only this time select the third option, and then click on the paperclipped button that shows up. Download the resulting file yg_setup_20050829.exe
and install it.
Image

Step 7: If you have a login or settings to make your PC Japanesey, you'll be doing yourself a favor now to switch to it. Installation can be somewhat sleepwalked through, much like anything else we've ever installed. Then go ahead and run it, and wait for it to patch.

Step 8: A few years later, when it finishes patching, there will be three small buttons lined up in a row. Click the left one to get to the login screen. Enter your account name and password, and you're in. Click on New Game

Character Creation:
#1 Select which server to make your character on. **EDIT** The midle one is castanet, which supposedly is where more english speakers are. I rerolled there. The modern "light" school is also supposedly more populous than the traditional "gloomy" school. I rolled to the modern school as a result.
#2 Select um... your school? Not sure what the significance of this choice is.
#3 Okay, new screen. They'll ask you a string of questions.
A: What is your name
B: What is your birthday?
C: What is your bloodtype?
D: What will be the last four digits of your in-game telephone number? (The game determines the first)
Then it's character selection. Less customization than many, but it's decent. Select gender, hair, facial expression and skin tone. Then proceed.

Gameplay: LeftClick to move and whack on things, RightClick adjusts camera angle. Alt click while whacking to do some sort of special. More as I learn.

Oh, if you find out how to dance, please do a great favor by telling how in this thread.
and feel free to post if you have any questions or need me to post more pictures.

I don't know what I'm more scared of right now,

This MMO or the fact you documented how to create an account and login.

or the fact that I'm downloading it......

Lum is using an icon (taken from this game, I think) on F13 that made me flip out before.

That icon is what inspired me to download this. When someone asked in #hate how to register, I thought I could help best by documenting things here.

Thus far, the video seems quite unlike gameplay. It seems closer to Lineage 2, but I didn't play that beta for very long.

I wonder how this will play out.

Ah hahaha. Thanks for that. I guess the name fits since any male playing will be a bastard just from the female models alone.

All the spells in the game will be named after rock bands, just like in the manga/short-lived anime. The protagonist was inspired and named after Dee Snider from Twisted Sister. This can't end well.

It looks like the game is highly instanced, so I'll offer basic gameplay help here. There is still plenty that I do not know, but this is enough to get you started when you are out in the grassy fields with nothing to do.

Image
You'll find yourself here to begin with. Left click to move around like you're playing Diablo or something or to talk to her. There's no grand dialogue trees so far, so just clicky on the text unless you want to read it, and if you easily can you can do me the favor of reading the info and telling me how I can dance like in the promo video.

That thing to the left is an instance portal.
Image
These are healing pots! They are hotkeyed to your 1 key, and you have a lot to start out with.

Okay, go ahead and enter the instance now.
Image

This should show you the depth of immersion in this game. Glorified lobbies for the... something. Okay, what you want to do is hit that purple button in the lower right hand corner to make a room. Sometimes entering an instance will give you multiple "episodes" to chose from.
Image
That field is for the room name. You can go with something creative or click the arrow and chose their pre-made room names.
Image
The big yellow button to the left says "Start" Click to begin. You'll get a loading screen, and the newbie tutorial begins. Walk up to purple hair, though she's probably engaging in dialogue with you already. She'll say "WASD" though you can't use WASD to move. A&D turn you left and right, and W&S affect the camera angle. The first critter
Image
As you whack away on these things, you'll get a powerbar that increases in the upper right hand corner of the screen, and a number will pop up, probably to tell you how many times you can use your Alt key for a super move. The Exp bar is experience, which levels up after an episode, not killing a critter, and the heart bar is of course health. Your heal pots can be spammed, but the lifegain is gradual, not instant.
Image
This Reisu is probably a Wraith. To beat it, you have to follow purplehair's advice and hold down the alt key. SPLAT!
Image
Another pic of the instance portal stuff you'll be entering. After you follow her one last time you'll come up to a scroll, but the tutorial will end at that point.
Image
OMG Loot! This shows you everything you've picked up from the Episode after you have completed it. If you happen to level while you're in there, you'll be notified.
Image
How to leave the game, if you're following these steps and are disgusted. Hit escape. The first option here takes you to the login screen, the last resumes the game. For hot Alt-F4 action, press the middle one.

Can I get some interesting screenshots of gameplay before I decide just HOW gay this game is on a scale of 1 to 10. Mind you I play Maplestory, so I'll probably play anything around 7 or lower.

I couldn't get out of the damn newbie area, but thanks to the above post I'll give it another try.

I felt my penis shrinking as I listened to the music. Of course having an avatar of an under-age japanese anime schoolgirl probably didn't help. Although I know some people get off on that kind of thing....

I make no promises that this is a worthwhile game. It seems very grindy, and I don't know how long the novelty honeymoon will last for me. I posted a link because Lum piqued my interest in the game and one person in #hate asked for a bit of help to get started.

DARK SCHNEIDER!!

Wow! "Bastard!" is one popular japanese manga by Kazushi Hagiwara that I simply LOVE (more the early volumes than the last).

You really don't have this translated in the USA? Because it's one MAJOR product, one of the very best :)

The game may be pure crap but the manga is one awesome product. I think the series is currently at 24-25 volumes and still ongoing (albeit slowly).

The idea of in-game cell numbers is a brilliant one.

So if what I read is right the dancing emote is from a consumable item that you only get one use from, but I guess you buy it at an item shop in there somewhere. One thing I noticed from the videos is apparently you have a ranking on a box icon constantly in the upper right that tells you what turn you would get at the phat lewt if the mission ended right then, at which point you take a guess from an array of unmarked boxes which one has the good stuff. So it looks like these developers are making new advances in loot-whoring, pointless money sinks and frustrating randomness. EXCITING 10!

So I got to try this last night. It seems like typical Korean MMOG fodder, only instead of going in town and getting quests you wander around school and then walk into a portal with a giant Y on it to go on a mission.

Since everything is broken at work this morning once again, I'll give some explanations on what stuff is, some of what was on the forum Bell linked and some from trial and error:

After the tutorial, assuming you picked the 'modern' school you start out between a soccer field and the front door of the school. Out there are some NPCs, and one of those obnoxious Y portals as well as a scroll looking thing.

Bell pretty much explained how to use the Y portal and make a room, though it's worth noting that when you get into that classroom-type lobby there are some tabs in the upper right window, one of which shows your friends list. I think you can highlight a person online there and invite them with the button below the list, though I haven't had a chance to try it yet. I'm still not sure what that big long yellow button does either. Also when you're at that first screen with the wacky icons, if you're having trouble finding the room another person made you need to pick the mission at the bottom row and then find the room at the top.

The scroll thing seems to act like a directory of stuff you can do. The first tab on the left side brings up a list of missions you have access to, and the "grades" along the bottom let you switch which set you're looking at in case you want to go back to an old one after getting promoted. (The basic premise of the game seems to be getting through missions to get promoted to the next grade.) If you pick one of those missions and hit the GO button you automatically walk to the Y portal for that mission, wherever the hell it is. If you switch the tab on the left to the lower one, you get a list of NPCs... I guess it shows NPCs who would offer you a quest since it went blank after I got the last quest I could find. Hit the GO button to walk to the NPC you select.

Oh yeah, before you get going, you might want to screw with the options; the radioactive symbol in the far lower right pops that menu up. The top options are display stuff: the on/off is the cel-outline effect, the top slider is bloom, and the next two are some sort of terrain draw distance and player/npc distance draw distance. The one at the top of the bottom cluster of sliders with "type A" and "type B" on it might interest you, where type A is middle button for special attack and right button for camera, type B is the opposite, which I find easier on the hand than smacking the middle button and then I don't have to remember to Alt-click. One of the options below that one, either two or three below that (I forget) will stop that obnoxious automatic camera rotation, so then you can put your hand on WASD and rotate with A and D if you really need to see crap, rather than going crazy with a shitty spinning screen as you try to corral enemies into a lump to special attack them.

More later if I find crap is still broken here.
