The Grimm:
Think of the Grimm as the most sophisticated A.I. a player will yet come across. Here is a bit of back story from “The Book of Fate”:
”One must respect the pure simplicity of strategy The Grimm utilizes when it invades a world. The most deadly and efficient weapon in it’s arsenal is of course “The Seed” - the horrific carrier of the “The Leech” virus. The Grimm releases billions of these microscopic seeds into the atmosphere which seems to be a most effective method of delivering “The Leech” into a global ecology. It takes mere hours for the seeds to reach their intended targets - namely any indigenous biological organism. The seeds inject the genetic material of “The Leech” into a host, and it is here where The Grimm carries out a most nightmarish plan. Biological organisms react to the virus in numbers of ways:
”1) The Organism rejects the foreign DNA causing a system-wide shutdown. Proteins can no longer synthesize and cellular walls begin to collapse and decay. The organism, in essence, liquefies due to a complete loss of cellular cohesion. Death is immediate and intensely painful. This is the most common reaction affecting nearly 60% of the populace.
”2) The Organism integrates the foreign DNA into its system. Here the DNA reprograms the hosts genetic matrix completely transforming into a new species - namely a sub-species of The Grimm. Once the transformation is complete, the new organism will possess the physical distinctiveness, encoded memories and objectives of the new matrix. The first objective is, of course, the eradication of any organism that is not of Grimm nature. The entire transformation process takes less than thirty minutes and affects 25% of the biological population.
”3) The Organism is naturally immune to “The Leech”. The affects of the virus are nominal and, furthermore, the host builds specific antibodies against the virus to protect future generations. This group encompasses the last survivors of Charr, affecting roughly 15% of the biological population.
”4) Lastly, the Organism integrates the foreign DNA allowing it to reprogram it’s physical matrix only. All thoughts, emotions and memories are left in tact and unharmed. This reaction is extremely rare, creating the race we have appropriately named “The Cursed”.

”Anyway, that’s how The Grimm invaded Charr. That was about 300 years ago in the Charr timeline. Since then the races have begun to rebuild and are now preparing to take the world back from The Grimm. This is the Ultimate “Global Quest” - the Holy War to abolish this wicked presence from Charr. The eradication of The Grimm will not be easy however for they have fortified dozens of dungeons and cities across Charr. A Grimm Lord commands each dungeon - the said Lord must be defeated, and the area blessed, before the Dungeon is considered “Cleansed”. The difficulty of these dungeons becomes increasingly difficult as players travel toward the center of the world known as “The Inner Circle” or “Circle of Hate”. The Inner Circle is the true home of The Grimm, encompassing several areas the last of which is “The Festering Tower of Pain” - residence to The Grimm. We anticipate it will be several months before players even begin entering the Inner Circle. It may take up to a year before players are powerful enough to overcome the first floor of “The Festering Tower of Pain”. In the meantime The Grimm will be pressing its minions forward toward NPC cities and player-run Havens. The Grimm will also attack player Havens which it deems weak creating an entire “Haven Management” dynamic to the game.
